SALARY: $32,975 

GRADE:  430    

CLOSING DATE: August 2, 2017

POSITION DUTIES:  Serves as lead painter giving training and direction to other painters who prepare surfaces of wood, metal, or masonry for painting, mix paints, and apply paint using a brush, roller, or spray gun throughout the Center.  May also apply varnish, lacquers, shellac, or enamel. This position may be assigned other duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:  High School Diploma or GED Certificate.

EXPERIENCE: Four years of experience in painting.

Painter II

CLASS DEFINITION:

              

A Painter II is a lead painter.  Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

 

Employee receives moderate supervision from a technical supervisor.  Employees in this class work shift work.  Work is performed indoors and outdoors where employees are exposed to inclement weather and heights from ladders and scaffolding.  Work requires moderate physical exertion.

 

 

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: 

 

  • Prepares surfaces (e.g. wood, metal, masonry, or other) for paint by spackling, caulking, removing old paint, and washing and cleaning surfaces.
  • Hang and tape drywall. 
  • Fill cracks and sand irregularities.
  • Paints interiors and exteriors of public buildings, equipment, bridges, railings, fences, etc. using brushes, spray guns, or paint rollers.
  • Varnishes desks, tables, and other furniture.
  • May cover and move furniture.
  • Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders.
  • Cleans brushes and floors, using solvent or soap and water.
  • Trains new employees.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Knowledge of the tools, materials, techniques, and equipment of the painting trade.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics of common types of paints and finishes.
  • Ability to prepare surfaces for painting.
  • Ability to choose the correct type of paint and/or primer for various surfaces.
  • Ability to paint area neatly and professionally.
  • Ability to erect scaffolding.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Requirements— High School Diploma or GED Certificate.

 

Experience—One year of experience in painting work.

 

Equivalencies – Six months of additional experience in painting work may be substituted for each year of high school or GED requirement.  Completion of one year of the required coursework in a painting curriculum in an accredited high school or vocational school may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement.
